Our FIRST Annual Rescue Reunion was held on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Kingston Park in Chatham, Ontario.  Our adopters, foster families, volunteers and adopted dogs and fosters were invited to get together to reunite under one roof to catch up!   It was such a wonderful time to see several of our precious rescues who had been adopted once again – for some it was a few weeks and others several months.  There was a lot of hugging and poochie kisses going on!  It was a time filled with new memories!

The day started off cloudy with a little rain but the skies opened up to beautiful blue skies, white clouds and bright shining sun.   The BBQ was fired up with delicious Ball Parks and many who attended brought food and goodies for our potluck table – salads, fruit and veggie trays, desserts.   No one left hungry!  The poochies also had their own treats to snack on!

Words cannot express the feeling of gratitude we all feel to have met so many wonderful and loving adopters since we first started our rescue.  To see the amazing progress and happy faces of the adopted dogs who have found their forever families is such a rewarding feeling that warms the heart!    Thank you for giving our rescues a second chance to have a new life filled with love!

We are blessed to have a team of volunteers who give of their time to help with our many events and the love they generously share with our rescues when we need temporary homes while they wait for their new families.  Without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, we couldn’t do what we do.  Thank you all for loving our rescues!

Next year we plan to do it again!   Enjoy a few pictures taken during our reunion, it was a wonderful day to remember….

Plans are in place to move the following rescued dogs into our foster care program on September 11, 2011 – please watch for updates!

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kerry Mall, his wife Krista, their staff and Krista’s mom (BBQ chef) for hosting a recent BBQ fundraiser at the Summer Series recently in Dresden.  They chose CK Animal Rescue as the organization they wanted to support by donating the proceeds from this BBQ.

It was reported that the turnout was huge at this end of the summer outdoor music/BBQ event and the people came hungry!  Krista’s mom kindly offered to be the BBQ chef at this event and we were told the hamburgers and hotdogs were flying off the BBQ!

Hmmm, tells us Krista’s mom must be a great cook!  We also heard Dr. Mall was doing great as the cashier too!

The total raised from this wonderful night’s event was $600!

Thank you ALL for giving your time and your love to help us in our mission.  And a huge thanks to everyone in the Dresden area who came out to support this fundraiser, we will always be grateful!

We were fortunate to have several of our volunteers willing to head to London to represent CK Animal Rescue at Puppy Pawlooza. If you’ve never heard of this festival or curious to know more about it, please visit their webpage – Puppy Pawlooza – London’s Festival for Dogs!

After returning from this very successful event, the words of our volunteers best describe how much fun everyone had at this HUGE festival for rescues, pet supply vendors, pooches and their two legged companions.  We look forward to attending next year along with some of our rescues!

Enjoy the pictures and keep Puppy Pawlooza in mind to attend in 2012.  Thank you to the organizers of this great event, your hard work is appreciated by all!

“Pawlooza was a blast!  I’m so glad we went, it was really neat to see all of the dogs, rescues, activities and vendors.  I was in doggie heaven!  I hope I can make it again next year, it was a great event for dog lovers!”

“Pawlooza was a hit!  Ally and I were pleasantly surprised with the number of visitors we had to our booth!  We sold lots of raffle tickets and quite a few dog treats. The free treats were a real draw! The “I love my Wiener” and “Rescue Mom” shirts were a hit! It was so nice to see all of the other rescues and we got some great ideas for the booth for next year! It was really too bad we didn’t have more pictures (or even better, some of our rescues) there.  Sign me up for next year. I can’t wait to go back!”

The winner of our Beautiful Raffle Basket was Lisa Thomas of London, Ontario.  Congratulations Lisa!

A big Thank You to Dalton Nadeau from Woodstock (formerly of Chatham) to ride his bike from Chatham to Bothwell (more than 40km!) to help our rescue. A great job done in record time, well done Dalton!  Our rescues appreciate your huge heart and love to make a difference!  You are an inspiration to the young people willing to share their time and love to give these precious rescues a second chance.  You are and always will be an important member of our rescue family!

On Saturday, August 20, 2011, Dalton Nadeau will be riding his bike to raise awareness and funds for our passionate cause of rescuing dogs who have little to no time left in shelters.  He was inspired by Haily Butler-Henderson when she walked from Chatham to Tilbury in June, 2011 for our rescues.

Midway Point – Chatham – park on Grand Ave West, Chatham – across from the mall (Zellers, Canadian Tire) – along with the river – 1-1:30

This ride entails 26 kms from Tilbury to Chatham and another 39 kms from Chatham to Bothwell.

Please be at the midway point in Chatham between noon and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday to be ready to show our support and huge applause of appreciation for his generous spirit!  TVCogeco Special Events crew will be there and other news media are invited to join us

The Art on the Boulevard was held in Erieau, Ontario on Saturday July 30th.  We were invited by Joanne Wales, our raffle basket winner from our March garage sale, to participate by providing information about our rescue.

Joanne and her friend Billie had their own table where they sold toys and treats for pets.  They asked us to provide information for visitors who stopped by their table.  We supplied them a binder with information about our rescue, our mission, pictures of our adoptable dogs, incoming rescues and our beautiful rescues who had been adopted along with flyers.  These wonderful ladies wanted to help us spread the word about our important work and the faces of the dogs we have been fortunate to rescue.

Joanne contacted us to let us know they raised $500 in donations this past weekend!!

We are fortunate to have met a wonderful lady in Georgia who rescues from the Henry Shelter in McDonough, Georgia as well as takes in owner surrenders and homeless dogs to help find them their forever homes.  This rescue is willing to work with us to help pull dogs from the shelter and provide boarding along with helping to take our Georgia rescues for their vetting.  Because of the kindness and generosity of this rescue to help us, we are reciprocating the favour by sharing information of dogs in their rescue on our webpage.

Please visit Praying For Paws – if there is a dog  you can help save by adopting, please contact us.

John Henry is a 10 year old senior Pomeranian, approximately 4 lbs., with innocent eyes and the sweetest little fur baby!   He arrived in Chatham on May 29 and is currently settling in his foster home.  John Henry was surrendered by a senior who could no longer take care of him due to disabling arthritis.

After much thought and consideration, John Henry will remain with our rescue as our official little Mascot!

Please consider adopting one of our senior rescues, they want love and attention as younger dogs and puppies.  Senior dogs are wonderful companions!  Many times they are already trained, they are not interested in digging holes or chewing shoes or furniture.  All they want is a lot of love in their senior years with a nice warm bed and a place to call their own.

Haily Butler-Henderson spearheaded a fundraising walk for our rescues on Sunday, June 26, 2011.  It was a beautiful day!  The sky was blue, the sun was out and a warm summer breeze greeted Haily and her supporters to start her walk from Chatham to Tilbury to raise awareness and money for CK Animal Rescue.  We can’t thank Haily and her family enough for their support for our precious rescues! Haily’s compassionate love for animals gives her the determination to walk for them.  To us, Haily is our hero and will always have a special place in all our hearts!  Thank you Haily from everyone at CK Animal Rescue!

Many of the people who attended the start of this fundraisers walked with Haily to start her off with a huge show of support!  We want to thank Maggie, Roy, Joel, Dave and Cassidy for going the distance with Haily!

All monies and items donated go directly toward vetting and boarding care for our rescued dogs currently in foster care and rescues scheduled to arrive to our area soon.

We want to thank Walt & Sherree Ball with Mac Ball Heating & Cooling (Chatham) for their generous offer to be our sponsor for Haily’s Walk for our Rescues, Scott Pritchard of Tim Horton’s on Bloomfield & Richmond (Chatham) for allowing us to set up our tent and table with t-shirts and flyers and to Carl with Canadian Tire in Tilbury for allowing us to use their location for our finish line of the fundraising walk.  Thank you so much for supporting our cause!

Thank you to Tracy & Dave with TVCogeco Special Events,Craig Venn (of Craig and Matt in the Morning) with Canada’s Rock 95.1 and 100.7 in Windsor, Chatham Daily News, CKCOTV News, A-Channel Windsor and Kevin McShan, CFTV34 (Leamington) for helping us get the word out about Haily’s Walk for our Rescues!

Many thanks to the volunteers and foster families of CK Animal Rescue, you are the foundation of our rescue, we couldn’t do what we do for these beautiful dogs if not for your love and support.

HUGE thanks to everyone who donated to our rescues before, during and after Haily’s Fundraising Walk, we are forever grateful for your support!  As a result of the tremendous efforts of so many, we raised $1700!!!
